Here is the Guest Opinion I have submitted to the Statesman-Journal for publication in response to this puff piece promoting and cheerleading for Gestapo CPS:
What was most interesting as well as disturbing was not so much what was said in the article, but instead what was not said, and what was exposed but not explored. Maybe it is me, but the level of 'journalism' today seems to be in serious decline as the 'Fourth Estate' neglects and abdicates its duty and responsibility to expose corruption and harms to the public good.
In the article we were regaled with how Ms Foley is going to continue and expand the activities of SCF, and most disturbing was how happy she was with the the quoted statement "I see the court as being a very, very active partner."
Excuse me, but I was apparently under the mistaken impression that the court was supposed to be providing impartial and unbiased oversight of this extremely powerful and intrusive agency whose members enjoy complete, total and absolute immunity, according to Oregon State Attorney General Hardy Meyers, even from criminal acts they may commit, corruption in their carrying out of their 'duties' or any harm they cause to innocent citizens of the state. What we see here is that far from being impartial and unbiased oversight, they are apparently cheerleading 'partners'. Does this not raise red flags all over the place for you? It should!
Data from SCF's own files which went into the 1992 Maine Study which was commissioned by the Oregon Legislature shows that well over 80% of actions against families, including the taking of their children, was entirely unjustified and unreasonable. Under such circumstances and in light of such facts these takings of these innocent children from innocent families and innocent parents causing great trauma for all involved is nothing less than kidnapping where the kidnappers enjoy complete, total and absolute immunity. And this does not get any mention in the paper. Why?
I have been asking that question for a very long time and I have yet to ever get any kind of real answer to it. Any other government agency causing this level of harm and with an error rate, by their OWN data, in the 80-90% range would be grist for the front page until the agency was entirely abolished. CPS agencies like SCF are routinely the only agencies with lower public approval ratings than the IRS. And yet the papers, and unfortunately the Statesman-Journal is far from alone in this, treat them with an absolute hands-off approach, never saying anything about them or their actions or agenda unless it is a cheerleading puff piece like the one just published.
Again I ask, why is this?
The article mentions how in a system where 80-90% of all actions against families are WRONG and UNJUSTIFIED they are going to turn the treadmill on to overdrive in a mad headlong rush to terminate the parental rights of (mostly poor) parents so they can sell their children off to the highest bidder in the adoption process. The SCF agency has gone on record as having a goal of taking twice the number of children from parents as they currently do. Considering their error rate this should send terror into the heart of anyone who considers the Family to be of any value whatsoever or who considers that the parents actually do have due process rights which are routinely denied, trampled or ignored in SCF's (and their 'partner's) headlong rush to shoot children through their system faster and in greater numbers than ever before!
Internal memos of SCF refer to children as 'product' and 'commodity' and their apparent treatment of Oregon Families like some perverted used car lot seems to substantiate that attitude's prevalence.
When will the papers, including the Statesman-Journal, wake up and report on the fascist and unconstitutional activities of this rogue agency which is destroying innocent families day in and day out?
